Your Worth As A Human Being Is As Great As Any Other!

“Heroes may not be braver than anyone else. They’re just braver five minutes longer!” – Ronald Reagan

At the beginning of the last football season the sporting press mad much of the transfer of the soccer player Gareth Bale from the London team Spurs (Tottenham Hotspur) to the Spanish team Real Madrid for a record fee in soccer of £86 million. What caught my eye was the amount he was to be paid for his skills to be used in the Real Madrid team, £300,000 a week!

This made me ask the question “How come this man was considered to be worth being paid more than 10 times more in a week than the average person earns in a year?” Average income in the UK in 2013 was around £26,000 a year and after benefits are added to the lowest 5% of incomes those who are receiving them have an income of around £13,000 per annum.

So Gareth is now being paid an amount that is equal to the income of 1,200 of the poorest people in the UK, some of whom will be working a 40 hour week. You may see this as jealousy on my part, or as a rage against the financial rewards system used in our capitalist and consumerist society, but it’s not! I look on in awe at Gareth’s soccer skills, but what does this transaction do to the rest of us?

Is someone’s skills really worth between 500 and 1,200 times what you or I receive. Yes of course there are others who earn at high levels, but by far the majority of us exchange the best and most productive hours of our waking week being paid at the levels I am suggesting here. My rage isn’t against the financial rewards system, but I do feel a massive sadness that as a result of considering this information people may come to the wrong conclusions about themselves and their lives.

Let me tell you here and now, that despite the fact that your skills and income may never reach the dizzy heights of Gareth Bale, your worth as a human being is as great as any other person alive! Until you are willing to accept this as a fact, the chances of your income increasing are negligible. You need to have self-esteem, you need to see yourself and the skills you have as worthwhile and necessary as everyone else.

I am currently looking to work with three people in my role as a Life Coach, to help build their self-esteem on the way to them achieving goals that maybe they have had for years but never realised. My studies into the subject on Personal Development over the years have inspired me to believe that anyone can fulfil their dreams and desires if they will commit themselves to a regime constant and never ending improvement.

Why not take me up on my offer of a 30 minute Discovery Session with me as your coach to see if coaching can help you turn your life around and whether I am the right coach for you. I describe myself as an Inspirational Coach, someone who holds the flag at the top of the hill for you, till you get there and are able to hold it for yourself.

Think of it, by Christmas this year you could have achieved your lifetime ambitions. I have a thirteen session program already mapped out which I can tailor to your needs. Rediscovering Your Passion

What Animates You?

“Passion is the genesis of genius!” – Anthony Robbins

Passion is something I most certainly have! I believe that we are all at our best when we let the love and light that is within us to shine through!

There are darker sides to our passion: hate, revenge, bullying to name but three, but that is not the kind of passion I am talking about.

What makes you, you? What animates you and makes you feel alive? Surely it is this passion that we all have, that should not be quenched by fear or lack of belief in ourselves.

Let today be a new beginning ! We need to take this opportunity to rediscover and use our passion for our lives, our loved ones and our world, to make it worthwhile for us to be here.

Growing Up

 Eavesdropping On My Parents

“Self-disciplined begins with the mastery of your thoughts. If you don’t control what you think, you can’t control what you do!” – Napoleon Hill

I remember late one evening listening from the attic steps where I had my bedroom to the conversation my Dad was having with my Mum which went along these lines.

My Mum said: “Andrew is getting in with the wrong sort of people, I am concerned for him!” My Dad replied “I am not worried about him, we have brought him up well and given him a good example to follow. Andrew is a good lad and I don’t think he will stray from the path we have shown him!”

I listened and looked into my own soul, I saw the concerns for which my Mum had spoken of taking root in my life and I felt the challenge of my Dad’s faith in me as it hit me. His words made me want to be better and in a strange way I think that hearing this conversation between my parents changed the outcome of my life.

Thank you Mum and Dad for everything you both did for me, but thank you especially to my Dad for always believing the best in me would eventually show up! I hope as he looks on from his view-point in heaven that I am making him and my Mum proud of all their love and efforts on my behalf. <3 <3 <3

Find Your Purpose Then You’ll Find Your Passion!

American Trip Apr-May 07 327

What would you say is the purpose for your life?

“People with goals succeed because they know where they’re going. It’s that simple!” – Earl Nightingale,1921-89, Author “The Strangest Secret”

I’m a people person, I care about everyone that I meet, what will become of them when my interactions with them are at an end? Will their lives be better for having met me, will I have touched them in some way for the good?

As a Life Coach I see part of who I am and what I do being to help people to find their purpose and their passion. So many people seem to me to be living lives of quiet desperation; I’ve stood outside our local shopping mall watching people coming and going and thought to myself – where have the smiles gone?

I believe we all have talents and that we were all sent here with a purpose. A life coach is a person who can help you to find out what your purpose is, if you really haven’t got a clue, then once you know what it is they can help you to work towards achieving your purpose.

When someone is on purpose in their lives, when what they do every day is what they love doing; then although someone looking in from the outside would say, you’re just like me you’ve got a job. The one on purpose would say it’s really not like work for me; it’s what I love to do. This is how you can become passionate about your life and you can feel fulfilled every day.

This life of purpose, passion and fulfillment is available to everyone. What do you love to do; I believe that is what you were meant to be doing all along! Where do your talents lie, what are you good at? Why aren’t you doing that very thing to earn your keep, what’s stopping you from giving up the drudgery and living your life to the full?

Let a Life Coach help keep you on track, by sharing the tools and strategies that we have, to make your life all you ever dreamed it to be. When you know what your calling in life is, you’ll also know ultimate fulfilment in your life!

Be Realistic!

Is your sense of reality, both accurate and intelligent?”

“Passion is energy! Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you!” – Oprah Winfrey

Most people who say “Be realistic!” maybe don’t realize it or wouldn’t admit it, but nevertheless they are living in fear.

Often because of past disappointments, and their own perceived failures, these people have become afraid of letting themselves down again. They have developed their limiting beliefs to protect themselves, but it is these same beliefs that cause them to hesitate and shy away from the risks they think exist, and as a result prevent them from giving their all; consequently they get limiting and limited results. Their limiting beliefs become part of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Great leaders are rarely “realistic” by other people’s standards. They are, however, accurate and intelligent. Mahatma Gandhi believed he could gain autonomy for India by peacefully and non-violently opposing Great Britain, something that had never been done before. He wasn’t being realistic, but he has certainly been proved to be accurate.

Everyone told Roger Bannister to be realistic, that no-one had ever run a mile in under four minutes and that no-one ever would! Yet they were proved by Roger to be unrealistic themselves on 6 May 1954 at Oxford when he completed the first sub four-minute mile, in three minutes fifty nine point four seconds on the University’s Iffley Road Track.

It’s interesting to note that within three months of Bannister proving that a man could run a mile in less than four minutes; almost 20 other athletes had literally followed in his footsteps! Since that time many others have not only completed the mile in less than four minutes, but the record is now held by the Moroccan, Hitcham Guerrouj who ran the mile in 3 minutes 43.13 seconds in Rome in 1999.

Which of your so-called realistic beliefs should you shun? What exciting, new, unrealistic but entirely possible expectations are there, that you should embrace? Please let me know if you’d like to explore the possibilities that your life has yet to embrace!

What Is Your Fantasy?

Do you use your imagination to achieve your dreams and desires?

“Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go!” – T. S. Eliot

There are three types of goal to aim for and the first two types are usually the one’s that you fail to achieve, but sadly they are the ones that most people adopt!

There are the goals that we know we can have; maybe it’s a new TV? How come we know that we can have a new TV? It’s because we already have a TV. It’s easy to believe we can have a replacement to anything we own. We’ve done it before, so we can do it again!

Then, there are the goals we think we can have, like losing weight! Other people have lost weight, we’ve seen their stories; so if we consider the problem and think about it, we should be able find or work out a strategy for losing weight!

The problem with the “know” and the “think” type goals is that both of them lack inspiration. Without inspiration our goals lose their desirability and very early on in our pursuit of these goals we give up, with our attempts to have them.

If you want a goal that you see as a pure fantasy, you will have to use your imagination to go get it and you will find that this will be a most inspiring journey. The inspiration will carry you through till you have the goal! However, most people don’t even consider this type of goal, and why is that?

As children we believed that anything was possible, our parents encouraged us to use our imagination, as it often served them to get us out from under their feet. But when we got to school we were told by our teachers to stop looking out of the window and to concentrate on the lesson being taught and if we didn’t we would be punished for not paying attention.

In this and other ways, our teachers stopped us from using our imagination and conditioned us to think about what they wanted us to think about, very much like the media attempts to do that to us in our adult life.

Roger Bannister ran the first sub four minute mile, Edmund Hillary climbed Everest, Wilbur and Orville Wright built a flying machine! Everyone said these things were impossible … but they weren’t! I suggest that you should, like Bannister, Hillary and the Wright brothers, escape your conditioning, and instead imagine and fantasize that your goals can become your reality!

So what is it that you want? What is your fantasy? I suggest whatever it is, however unrealistic, you should pursue it with all your might! You may want to consider having a Life Coach at your side throughout the journey to keep you on track, to believe in you, to share the tools and strategies that will help and encourage you and prevent you from feeling like giving up.

Napoleon Hill the author of “Think and Grow Rich” said “The imagination is the most marvellous, miraculous, inconceivably powerful force the world has ever known!” I suggest you use yours!

Never Ending Supply Of Wisdom

Written and © Copyright 2006
By Andrew Paul Smith 18-04-2006

Like a weary man in a dry parched land
With the midday sun bleaching my skin
I was hot and thirsty I was feeling dirty
Needing to fill any aching emptiness within

Don’t expire in the fire
Drink deeply from the cool and
Never ending supply of wisdom

Then she said to me you must be out of your tree
Not to understand the implications here
You could hang on to a mirage and miss taking charge
Of your life and putting an end to your fears

In the desert sand my thirst came to and end
This was a revelation of the things that were to come
Like a prophecy her words came to me
My angel gave her comfort and was gone

I was cool and elevated yeah I felt elated
And my emptiness took wings and flew away
The sun still filled the sky and not one cloud went by
Yet my troubles were gone I was no more afraid

I could see my way through although was still blue
But a gentle breeze blew on my back
The problems of the day had vanished away
Perception is the judgement we sometimes lack

That Awesome Person Called You

Who is in awe of you?

‎”It is a lesson which all history teaches the wise, to put trust in ideas, and not in circumstances!” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

In conversation with one of my clients, I was told about one of his business acquaintances that he said he was “in awe of,” someone who my client had a very high opinion of; so I asked the client “Who is in awe of you?”

Often we see others as somehow further down the path than we are ourselves, they’ve got better knowledge, better connections, better abilities and they appear in comparison to us as super-human. We aspire to be like them.

The reason for this conclusion is because of our own perception not only of the world, but of our own place within it. We think we know all there is to know about ourselves and we’re just ordinary, the skills we have are common place.

My client is a very successful small business owner, who built up his business from scratch, having to learn the tools of his trade as his business developed over the years. I’m sure that many of his clients see him as the expert in his area.

There is another question that I asked my client the next time I spoke to him; it’s a question I’d like to ask you too, “Are you in awe of yourself?” Psalm 139 v14 says that we are “Fearfully and wonderfully made!”

It’s time to realize that you aren’t insignificant; you too have knowledge, connections, talents and abilities. It’s my belief we have all been sent into this life equipped for a grand purpose, but sadly many people die with that potential still unfulfilled. If you’re not sure, I’d love to help you to discover your purpose or maybe just how to get back on track, to the place where you know deep inside you’re supposed to be in your life.
