BOTH SIDES NOW
“In the end, people judge you anyway. Don’t live your life impressing others. Live your life impressing yourself!”
Lessons learned that have to be unlearned, number two! Maybe it’s a strange way to learn, but on reflection maybe it’s the height of discipline to be made to see things from both sides?
A regular statement made by my maternal Grandmother was “What will other people say?” This question I heard my Mother repeat, I was conditioned by this statement into becoming concerned, even fearful, of what others had to say about my actions.
Yesterday I shared a moment of enlightenment with you, when I realised that I couldn’t get too big for my boots, as I’d been warned. Today I want to share with you the realisation that being told to please others is an equally bad piece of advice to follow.
Your life is yours, for you to live! People who live in fear, die in regret. Following social norms is the behaviour patterns of sheep. Think for yourself! Don’t go with the crowd, unless it is your considered opinion that it’s the right way for you to go.
