Growing, Learning and Becoming

“The highest reward for one’s toil is not what one gets for it, but what one becomes by it.” – John Ruskin

Most people go to work each day, so that they can get the money they need to pay their bills. In a majority of cases people dream of what their lives would be like if they no longer needed to work; that is unless of course their work is their passion, their vocation, their calling. Work is not only what you do, it is also part of who you are! Most people when asked to describe themselves start by telling the questioner about the work that they do.

However, it’s possible to look at work in a different way. Money isn’t all that we get from our work; our work can help make us a better person! Whatever you do over and over again either gets easier for you or you will start to make your own improvements and shortcuts and as a result you will get better results in a smaller amount of time! In this life we are always growing and learning, in fact it is one of our basic human needs to grow.

By doing our work each day, our actions are most surely having their effect on who we are becoming. Do you like the person your work is moulding you into becoming? If not maybe it’s time to think of a change of career; maybe now would be a good time to start looking at finding work doing something that you are passionate about, and to find your vocation or calling?
