Choosing

HOW GOOD ARE YOU AT CHOOSING?

“I think most of us are raised with preconceived notions of the choices we’re supposed to make. We waste so much time making decisions based on someone else’s idea of our happiness – what will make you a good citizen or a good wife or daughter or actress. Nobody says, ‘Just be happy – go be a cobbler or go live with goats!” – Sandra Bullock

Life is made up of so many different choices, but despite being free to make your own, you have a default setting that those who raised you imparted. That auto-pilot choice, which you must learn to transcend, doesn’t free you from the consequences of the things you choose after you’ve grown beyond it.

So, although it’s an amazing step to make, once you start choosing for yourself you have to get smart. If you don’t like the results, make different and hopefully better choices! Some choices are minor and you can hardly feel the shift you’ve made as you stop listening to the script your parents handed you, but other choices are life changing.

I was told by my Life Coach that I could believe anything I wanted to, I disagreed, and for two weeks I had an inner dialogue about why. Eventually I came to the conclusion that I was unable to believe anything because I had adopted the identity “I am a Christian” ¬†and that the beliefs of a Christian were the only ones I could hold.

The “aha” “eureka” moment of revelation that was life changing for me was that although I maybe a Christian, I am much more than that. I am the one who chose to become a Christian! It may not seem that amazing to you, but for me it became a decisive moment in my life for me, the day I realised I have the ability to choose anything.

Do you fall into old familiar patterns? Are you working on auto-pilot, or are you designing your life and becoming the person you choose to be. I believe most people are: “living lives of quiet desperation” because they aren’t choosing and I challenge you, however difficult it maybe initially, for you to start breaking old patterns, to choose.

To have a life coach that can help you to see the multiple choices you may think you don’t have and to live your life on your terms, please email me at “andrewpaulsmith@hotmail.co.uk” and put “Handle On Life” in the subject line.

“Everything in your life is a reflection of a choice you have made. If you want a different result, make a different choice!”
