We Are Capable Of Much More Than We Think We Are!
“One only gets to the top rung on the ladder by steadily climbing up one at a time, and suddenly, all sorts of powers, all sorts of abilities which you thought never belonged to you – suddenly become within your own possibility and you think, ‘Well, I’ll have a go, too.'” – Margaret Thatcher
We can never see further than the horizon, sometimes things block our way and because of the landscape or the weather conditions we can’t see as far. In our lives too, sometimes our horizons aren’t clear, but even if they are we can’t see the extent of our journey till we get to the next staging post.
As we walk in the direction we have set for our lives, new things open up to us. We are able to see further along the road and the effort we have taken, the learning we have done, the challenges we have had to face on our journey have enabled us to become more than when we set off.
We are able then to realize that we are capable of more than we first thought. That is why the journey is just as exciting as the arrival. When we take time to rest on our arrival at our first set of goals, we realize that there is so much more than we can accomplish.
What are you able to do now, that you couldn’t imagine doing 5
or 10 years ago?
Paralysed Man Walks Again
“Winners make a habit of manufacturing their own positive
expectations in advance of the event.” – Brian Tracy
Do you see yourself as a winner? You are more likely to win if you expect you will! Did you notice that, I didn’t say you would win, I said you are more likely to win, and there is a difference? The one, who expects defeat, draws that defeat nearer to him or her. Don’t shoot yourself in the foot, by giving your opponent (whether it is a person or an experience) the upper hand.
It is the very thought of the expectation that we will succeed which aligns our intentions with the possibility of success. In this life we get what we expect, not what we want! Our reality is based in the thought world, the world of imagination. Everything that ever existed exists now or ever will exist in the human world, originates within the imagination of human beings!
If you can’t imagine winning in the game of life, you’re on a cruising to a bruising! If this is where you are at in your thinking, (After reading these “Daily Insights” so long now I expect it isn’t!) you need to find some evidence that will help you to believe something different about yourself.
If you look back in your life you will see that there are many occasions and many different circumstances where you have won in the past. Instead of remembering all the negative and painful outcomes of your life, remember instead your past triumphs and be certain and know that in this moment you can and will succeed!
For some this will be an alien way of thinking, but it is a must to desire such thinking! So here in this present moment, I know each one of us has a desire to succeed in some given pursuit. The way to make it happen is to start having positive expectations around our long held desires, to stop pussy-footing around and go for gold! See you on the winner’s podium!
The Wisdom Of Asking
“What separates those who achieve from those who do not is in
direct proportion to one’s ability to ask for help.” – Donald
When you are out driving in your car and you get lost or can’t find the place you are going to, do you stop and ask for directions? By far the majority of men prefer not to admit that they are lost or haven’t got a clue of how to find somewhere!
Asking for help, is not tantamount to weakness but makes the one doing the asking wiser. It also helps us to get where we are going a lot quicker; I know I’ve experienced this from both sides of the equation! Asking is the shortcut, learning from others is a wise move, why make all your own mistakes when you can find someone who is willing to share their insights with you.
Most people will help you if they can; we all like to be able to lessen the load for our fellow human beings and to feel useful. This doesn’t just work in getting where you want to go on the road, but also on the road of life too! Find yourself a mentor, someone who has walked the path you are now walking before you!
In most cases the mentor will feel privileged to be able to help you and be willing to share with you some of their hard earned wisdom, often remembering how they were helped back when they also hadn’t got a clue.
So if you want to achieve anything at all, the best policy is always to ask someone who knows or Google it! Why struggle with making mistake after mistake and wasting your life, when you could make it easy on yourself! Ask!
Where Do You Place Your Focus?
“The person who makes a success of living is the one who sees his goal steadily and aims for it unswervingly. That is dedication.”
– Cecil B. DeMille
In this life, focus is everything! Your life is determined by the things that take up your attention, the result can be disappointment and desperation, or happiness and blissful joy. It is a choice we have to make there are thousands of things happening around us every day, but we can only pay attention to between three or seven of them at a time.
When you go to a party and there is a room full of people, you may see an argument taking place, red faces of anger, pointing fingers, harsh tones at one side of the room. Another person at the same party may see some other people smiling and laughing, arms wrapped around one another dancing.
If someone was to ask if the party was a good one, the reply would be defined by what you saw. By focusing on the pleasant things that happen in life, it doesn’t mean that there aren’t any negative ones, but your personal experience of life will change for the better.
If the prime focus of your life is a goal or goals that you are aiming for it will be less likely that you will be distracted and more likely that you will become dedicated to the life of your choosing, and that that life is the one that you will experience.
This Is Where The Thousand Mile Journey Starts!
“Do not despise the bottom rungs in the ascent to greatness.” –
There’s a bible verse that says something quite similar to today’s insight, it’s one I haven’t heard quoted many times, but as soon as I read it I loved the truth it contained. It says ” Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin” (Zechariah 4:10 – New Living Translation).”
Zechariah spoke these words after the return of the Jewish nation from its Babylonian exile as the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem began. Many people were laughing that after a seventy year gap there was any point in laying new foundations. What was the likelihood of such a large project being successful and yet this prophecy tells us that the one who has started the work (Zerubbabel) would complete it.
There are other sayings within our culture that make a similar point! One is “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great!” Another is “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step!”
You have to start somewhere; the best place is the beginning! If you have a lifetime or any other goal in mind, first you need to break it down into milestones or mini-goals and then decide what are the action steps you need to take and in what order.
If you want to climb the ladder of your success, all you need to do is put your foot on the bottom rung. Take that first step then you have inertia, take the second and you’ll have momentum!
WHAT IS YOUR MISSION, YOUR LIFE’S CALLING?
“Never be afraid to tread the path alone. Know which is your path and follow it wherever it may lead you; do not feel you have to follow in someone else’s footsteps.” – Eileen Caddy
Back in 1974 I was called into a short interview with the Careers Master at school. He asked me what I wanted to do when I left school; I told him a close friend was thinking about going to work for a bank. I also told him that Maths had been my strongest subject at school. He suggested I go to see three bank managers that he knew and I took the first job that I was offered.
Looking back now, this seems a strange way to arrive at a life path, especially in light of the fact that my “close friend” went to University and studied psychology. I think in all honesty to have studied psychology would have been more helpful for me in what I am doing now. Instead I went to the “University of Life” and spent many years in banking, accounting and other work that required my number crunching skills.
Nothing is ever wasted, I do believe that being able to think logically is of great help for my Life Coaching clients in enabling them to see the wood from the trees, but I often wonder if I would have found my calling earlier if I had taken a different path to the one that resulted from the conversation with the so called Careers Adviser.
Many 16 year olds don’t have a clue what they want to do with their lives and they instead follow a career path that their parents took, or one followed by their peers. But it’s not only at age 16 when we can choose to be a copy rather than an original.
I have said before within these Daily Insights that I believe each person is here on planet Earth with a mission to complete. If you don’t know what your purpose is, it’s time to find out and then to pursue it, even if it means you have to do it alone! I believe that if you do a life of fulfillment and joy awaits you!

YOU HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE THE UNIVERSE!
“It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.” – Napoleon Hill
The milk of human kindness! Its love and not money that makes the world go round! The best way to get what you want out of life is to help a significant amount of other people to get what they want!
Jesus said “Do unto others as you would have them do to you!” and some one trying to be funny added “only do it first!” The law of karma says whatever you do is going to come back to you! In the Old Testament of the Bible we are told to “Cast out your bread on the waters and it will return to you in many days!”
Robert Cialdini explains about the Law of Reciprocity in his book “Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion.” He reminds us that people tend to return a favor and that is why within marketing your products it is sensible to give away free samples; for example: my offer of a complimentary 30 minute coaching session.
“What goes around comes around!” So if you give away, with a kind and caring heart that which will help others to succeed, you are about to receive success. Unremarkably the opposite is true; in the long run those who don’t help others to succeed will not succeed themselves.
You have the power in your hands right now to change the universe as you experience in your favor by starting today to help others succeed! If you can do this genuinely with love in your heart for others and a deeply held desire for them to do well, you will
begin to see your dreams come true.
COURAGE TO FULFIL YOUR PURPOSE
“Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier
needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women
to win them.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Once you know your purpose in life, once you are sure what you are here on planet Earth for, it seems usual that before long a challenge will be made to you. It’s almost as if you are being tested to see whether you have the resolve, the determination, the courage that is needed to carry out your mission.
Friends and family may get scared, they may worry that they are going to lose you to this great purpose you have found. In fact it’s possible that many people die with their potential inside them for doing what they were supposed to do, because well meaning friends and family persuaded them to stick with the tribe.
Worse still once you put your head above the parapet you must expect to shot at. There will always be others who disapprove of your quest, the path that you have decided to walk. They will keep showing up with no apparent reason for wanting to distract you, other than they know that if you succeed they will be revealed as the ones who gave up too easily in trying to achieve the same goal themselves.
The difficulties you will face along the way to fulfilling your purpose are there to make you strong! All you need to succeed in your life’s calling is courage, bravery, determination, tenacity and that “never give up attitude.” Then you will know the exhilarating joy of victory!
ARE YOU CONTINUALLY BECOMING?
“I like a state of continual becoming, with a goal in front and not behind.” – George Bernard Shaw
As human beings it is our purpose to grow each day! In fact growth is one of the six human needs! When we stop growing, we start dying! In some ways we are like trees because even when a tree is no longer a sapling, or a young tree, it will continue to grow until it dies.
The tree has a job to do, it takes nutrients from the soil and water from the ground; but then whilst it’s alive the tree gives something back, shade, beauty and oxygen! As long as the tree is growing it is able to give; it is already a tree and yet it is still becoming a tree. Its goal is to sustain its life and give something back to the environment.
Whilst we continue to grow and achieve more in our lives, we become more useful and more able to be a blessing to those around us. The goals that we all have are as different as the personalities by which we are known and yet if we are growing we are continually becoming more than we were yesterday.
What specific goal or goals are you personally committed to? I’m not asking you about what you have already achieved in your life; but what comes next for you? Are you in the process of “continually becoming?” What new wisdom do you seek to gain? What new abilities do you intend to master? How do you intend to give back? How do you plan to become a blessing to those around you?
These questions aren’t rhetorical; I’d really love to know! Keep growing my friend, be committed to becoming all you can be and even if your body starts to give up on you in later life, your spirit will be alive and continue to grow!
